5 Love Languages

There are few times in life when you read a book that is a real game changer. This is one of them. The 5 Love Languages by Gary Chapman explains why people do what they do. This book is for everyone; it can be used at work, at home or with friends.

If you could speak and act towards someone in a way that they understood and that would fill them up, it would make life easier for you and for them. When we give, we receive, that is a universal law.

Imagine a basket of apples. Every time that someone asks something of us, we give one away, and then another and another. Until finally the basket is empty and you have nothing else to give.

Gary Chapman is not the only one that speaks about this concept. In an interview that Oprah gave on Career, Life and Leadership at the Stanford School of Business she also talks about why it is so important to fill yourself up.

Once you are full, you can give more to others. You can show up more fully at work, with your friends and with your family. How you fill up, is entirely up to you. It is doing whatever fills you with joy. That’s it. For some people that could be cooking, for others it could be sports, art or music. It doesn’t matter what it is, as long as it is something that brings you joy and makes you happy.

My wish for everyone is that they read this book and get busy filling up. We all deserve to live well.
