Be Light Years Ahead of Your Buddies!

You know that saying about space being the Final Frontier. But somehow I don’t expect I will soon be on the bridge of the Star ship Enterprise heading out there. Nor will Chewbacca and I ever be flying our ship fighting the bad guys in space, except in my imagination!

But here is something we can do that is really, really real: we can go outside into our yard at night and look at the moon, the planets and the stars. We can Google stuff on the Internet to learn more about our Galaxy, the Milky Way, the many, many stars that are out there, and the infinite (that’s a really big number!) variety of shapes and colours in our universe, and those mysterious Black Holes that actually gobble up stars for breakfast. And lunch. And supper. And they snack on these huge balls of matter like there is no tomorrow. NASA has actually found them out there burping after a really big meal of stars!

You can go outside and look at the night sky to observe the moon, planets and the stars and constellations that have guided our ancestors in their travels long before we had compasses, maps and GPS.

Here is a website that has some neat stuff that is happening right now (April 2020) in the night-time sky that is right above all of us. All you will need is a clear, cloud-free sky to see these things. Even better, see if you can borrow some binoculars from someone so you can see it all better.

And let me finish with this: right now no night is a school night, so your parents might even be willing to let you stay up later to observe all this neat stuff outside in the night sky. Or maybe you need to get up real early, before the sun rises.

  1. Excellent blog! Do you have any suggestions for aspiring writers? I’m planning to start my own site soon but I’m a little lost on everything. Would you advise starting with a free platform like WordPress or go for a paid option? There are so many options out there that I’m completely confused .. Any recommendations? Thank you!
